Creating Precision Chemical Dosing Systems

Chemical dosing applications typically involve the dosing of an exact amount of chemical into a larger volume of liquid. The chemical could be an additive, reagent or a treatment to alter the pH value or concentration of the liquid. Dosing could take place at regular set time intervals or as a reaction to a measurement or reading. Each application is different, but every dosing system needs to be designed and built with the same precision

Applications are found across a broad range of industries but are commonplace in Water and Waste Treatment, Food and Beverage, Surface Treatment and Power Generation. Waste and Water Treatment applications demand treatment and pH correction prior to recirculation, reuse or discharge. CIP (Clean in Place) or Sanitisation applications utilise powerful cleaning agents diluted to the required concentration. Surface Treatment applications, such as using sulphuric acid to galvanise steel will periodically demand the concentration of the treatment solution to be regulated to maintain the effectiveness of the treatment process. Cooling towers and steam boilers used in Power Generation require chemicals to be dosed to manage potential system corrosion.

At Chem Resist we have extensive experience in designing and manufacturing Chemical Dosing Systems, particularly those involving harsh and aggressive chemicals. To protect operators and the environment we use ChemiGuard Dosing Cabinets to safely contain the pump, valves and pipework and provide protection from any potential loss of containment incidents. ChemiGuard Dosing Cabinets also provide protection from UV, weather and dust and other potential contaminants. A range of cabinet sizes is available to give efficient use of space on-site and coloured door options aid application identification.

Chemical Dosing Systems demand precision components, 2 of the most popular pump technologies used to dose chemicals depend upon the available power source; Air Operated Double Diaphragm (AODD) pump and Chemical Dosing/Metering pumps. Both technologies offer performance, reliability, consistency and the ability to handle a wide range of pressures and viscosities including shear sensitive liquids, such as flocculants, used to remove solid impurities.

Almatec AODD pumps feature no close fitting or rotating parts eliminating wear and potential failure and are able to handle wide range of viscosities and pressures and liquids with solid content. Neptune Chemical Dosing/Metering Pumps include hydraulic, mechanical and electronic technologies and are able to handle high viscosities and pressures and deliver low and high flow rates. Plast-O-Matic valves and controls provide any necessary readings and safety measures within the system and connecting pipework in a range of thermoplastic materials including PP, HDPE, PVDF and PVC is also available.
